History

The Mesabi Community Orchestra was founded 30 years ago by Jeanne Doty. Over the years the orchestra has continued to thrive and provide quality classical music to many communities on the Iron Range. Our current membership hails from Ely, Aurora, Gilbert, Eveleth, Mountain Iron, Virginia, Chisholm and Hibbing. Our members range from advanced students to adults of all ages. Some members are high school trained and others are university trained. Traditionally, we perform three concerts per season. One is generally a classical concert, another we share with the East Range Choral Society and and tends to be sacred in nature, and yet another is shared with the Mesabi Community Band and is a pop/variety/light classical concert.

For many years the Mesabi Range Community and Technical College (MRCTC) has funded the orchestra, band and choir by paying the directors, purchasing music and equipment, maintaining instruments, paying providing rehearsal and performance space and secretarial support. Due to educational funding and policy changes, the MRCTC can no longer provide the financial support they once did. Revenue sources we currently have are concert ticket sales and member fees. These alone are not adequate sources to fund the operation of the orchestra.

So, how can you help?

You can help us by making a tax-deductible donation. We have 504(c)(3) status. We have various levels of support for you to choose from.

They are as follows:

  • Podium Sponsor ($250 or Higher)
  • Chair Sponsor ($150)
  • Half-Chair Sponsor ($75)
  • Quarter-Chair Sponsor ($50)
  • Friend of the Orchestra ($30)

All contributors will have their names listed in the program, unless they indicate that they would like to remain anonymous. In addition, businesses have the option of putting an advertisement in the program for the season.

Simply fill out the Sponsorship Form (in PDF) and return it to our treasurer, Donna Haapala (address on the form). Deadline for the 2007-2008 Season is December 1, 2007.
